The Macrobiotic Way as Taught at The Vega Study Center

In the macrobiotic way as taught at The Vega Study Center, you are inspired to find the life that you want to live, not to follow or imitate others.

The macrobiotic way is not a static approach but a dynamic adventure using simple principles that, when freely applied to every aspect of living, can guide you to a healthier and happier daily life.

The first step in the macrobiotic way is to learn the application of these principles to daily food selection and preparation. The macrobiotic way is not a rigid dietary formula that condemns or accepts any food blindly, but encourages us to understand not only the value and proportion of nutritional factors, but also the "life quality" of the food that we choose.

The macrobiotic way maintains that health is a natural birthright and the natural state of the human being. The human being is unique physically, emotionally and consciously. In order to best develop, nourish and sustain these unique human qualities, we must understand what is real human food. Just as a wild animal will best be developed and nourished by its proper food, so too, only human food will properly develop the human body, emotions, and mind over an entire lifetime without premature aging, unusual illness or mental decline.

Human food must not only be good for the human being, but in the macrobiotic view, it must also be good for society, for the environment, and for the economy. It makes no sense to consume foods that appear to be nutritionally correct but also pollute the environment, waste natural resources, feed fewer people, and are costly to produce, manufacture, store, and transport.

The macrobiotic way encourages an approach to eating that provides complex carbohydrates, quality protein, and fat through the use of whole grains as a main food, and by using vegetables and other supplemental foods.

The macrobiotic way also teaches that health and happiness is available when you move away from dependence on habits, authorities, and experts, and into the true adventure of freely creating the life that you want. Living the macrobiotic way is a powerful personal statement to the world that says, "I am the artist of my own life. I blame no one, not my parents, not my past, not my neighbors; nothing, not even germs, or viruses. Any illness and unhappiness are my own doing, and my health and happiness are for me to create, too." In the macrobiotic way as taught at The Vega Study Center, you are inspired to find the life that you want to live, not to follow or imitate others. When you are living the life you want, there is no reason to complain, because you are doing exactly what you want to do. Many believe that life is no longer their sit belongs to work, to a husband or wife, to kids, to making money, to time, to responsibilities, to regrets, to working toward retirement, to? But the macrobiotic way makes a profound and honest call to the wild and free heart of each person: "You were born to be happy, to live the life you want; yes, you can really do it, jump into the river of life!"
