The
Vega Teaching Staff
Cornellia Aihara
and late husband Herman Aihara
were world-renowned macrobiotic masters who were loved by
thousands for their example of humility, integrity, and generosity.
For more than forty years the Aiharas have taught, guided,
and challenged their students to become free thinkers, creative
cooks, innovative teachers, and self-reliant, happy individuals.
In their unassuming way, the Aiharas have remained totally
dedicated to continuing the work started by their teacher,
George Ohsawa, founder of the modern-day macrobiotic movement.
They are the founders of The Vega Study Center and The George
Ohsawa Macrobiotic Foundation, both located in Oroville, California.
The late Herman is the author of numerous books including
Kaleidoscope, Learning From Salmon, Basic Macrobiotics, and
the best-selling Acid and Alkaline. Known around the world
for his peaceful presence and special wisdom, Herman touched
his students lives with laughter, acceptance, and his ever-present
encouragement to do what you want to do, to live freely and
creatively, and to release yourself from the prison of blaming
and complaining. He was also admired for his special way of
explaining illness and health from a modern physiological
and scientific view, as well as the traditional macrobiotic
view. Cornellia is the inimitable powerhouse of macrobiotics
who has taught macrobiotic cooking classes all over the world,
and has steadfastly nourished her family, students, and friends
with her delicious cooking and her invincible spirit of motherly
love. Her cookbooks have become macrobiotic household treasures,
including Macrobiotic Kitchen, The Calendar Cookbook, and
The Do of Cooking. Together with Herman, she wrote Natural
Healing From Head To Toe, the definitive guide to healing
with macrobiotic home remedies, and her Macrobiotic Childcare
has become a classic.
